I want a personal protection dog?
I’ve been researching buying a personal protection dog, what keeps coming up is being careful of being scammed. Does anyone have any advice on how to avoid being scammed?
I’m aware of the prices, and very aware that a labrador can’t be a personal protection dog.
Start attending Schtuzhund trainings and Schutzhund competitions. Find some dogs that have what you want and talk to the owners/breeders/handlers/ trainers.
You can also contact local Schutzhund clubs and ask them if they have a list of responsible breeders/trainers.
A fully trained protection dog can easily run you $10,000 and they are not usually ‘happy go lucky’ family dogs. Don’t expect a lab or even a non schutzhund GSD. Many are very work driven and focused, which is very different for most people.
